Billie Sue Stephens Black, born on July 15, 1938, in Pampa, Texas, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. The sixth of twelve children born to Virgil and Gladys Stephens, Billie Sue grew up on a cotton farm west of Newlan. She attended school in Estelline and Memphis, Texas, where she cultivated her love for life and family.
Billie Sue had a passion for gardening and canning vegetables, as well as sewing, making dolls and blankets, painting, cooking, and hunting for arrowheads. She also loved collecting rocks, listening to country music, and dancing. A life filled with creativity, love, and warmth, Billie Sue dedicated herself to her family and cherished every moment with them. She was happily married to the love of her life, Tom Black, for 62 wonderful years.
Billie Sue is survived by her devoted husband, Tom, sons Tony Black (wife Letha), Jim Bob Black, Stephen Vaught, and daughter Darla Vaught-Davis. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Black.
Her legacy continues through her 8 grandchildren-Tonya (Barrett), Tommy (Lucretia), Tabitha (Ashley), Kimberlee (Chris), TJ (Megan), Jeremy, Jada, and Jesse-and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind 3 brothers, Tony, Lloyd, and Jerry, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Billie Sue's kindness, creativity, and unwavering love for her family and community will be dearly missed. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Billie Sue's life will be held at 11:00AM(CST) on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Dalhart Church of Christ in Dalhart with Monte Duncan officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00PM (MST) in Kenton Cemetery in Cimarron County, OK. Billie Sue will lay in state from noon until 6:00PM(CST) on Sunday at the funeral home. Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services has the honor of serving The Black Family with Billie Sue’s Homegoing Services.
