Evelyn Tabitha Fink, 95, of Dalhart, Texas, formerly of McAlester, Oklahoma, died January 19, 2025, in Dalhart. Evelyn will be taken back home to be laid to rest with her late husband, James Jay Fink in Indianola, OK. Local arrangements are entrusted to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Evelyn was born to Arthur and Tibitha Emmaline Lewis on March 25, 1929, in Indianola, Oklahoma, and attended school at Indianola. She married James Fink on May 19, 1945, in Eufala, Oklahoma, and soon after, the couple moved to California where James worked for an orchard. While in California, they had a son, Dennis. Their family moved back to Oklahoma shortly afterwards and several years later, they had a daughter, Shannon.
Evelyn worked many years in retail, first for F. W. Woolworth and then for Montgomery Ward. She then worked as a cashier for Ray's Market and Cash Saver until she retired in 1981.
Evelyn was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church in McAlester before she and James moved their membership to High Hill Baptist Church in 1979. She was a faithful member of her women's Sunday School class and dearly loved her church family. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed spending time with her family and a few close friends. She enjoyed cooking and was known for serving wonderful meals with plenty of homemade pies and cakes. With more time on her hands after the passing of James, Evelyn began traveling more to stay with her daughter in Dalhart. She became an avid reader and had bookshelves overflowing with novels. She enjoyed old country music and was most content with her music playing and a good book in her hand.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Tabby Lewis; two sisters, Alta Susan Lewis, and Beulah Beck, and three brothers, Herskel Lewis, Bascom Lewis, and John Arthur Lewis; her husband, James Jay Fink; and son, Dennis Ray Fink.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Shannon Wilson, of Dalhart; daughter-in-law, Elaine Fink of Haileyville; six grandchildren, Shelby (Tyler) Campbell, Kendall (Clay) Waldrip, Britt (Parker) Noel all of Dalhart, Dena Fink of Tulsa, Shannon Brooks of Haileyville, and Patrick Brooks of McAlester; fourteen great-grandchildren, Fisher Waldrip, Magnolia Waldrip, Eleanor-Kate Waldrip, Caroline Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, and Jon Cade Campbell, Marlow Noel, Finn Noel, Crew Noel, Aidan Brooks, Mason Brooks, Quin Lee Brooks, Eric Johnson, Jr., and MacKenzie Lee; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws, Loretta Suter and Pam Fink; and numerous nieces and nephews.
