It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip Allen Herdina, aged 48, of Dalhart. After a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, Phillip peacefully passed away on August 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. To honor his memory, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Father Lawrence John will be presiding over the service. Following the Mass, interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Rosary will also be recited at 6 o'clock in the evening on Friday at the church. Prior to the services, friends and loved ones can pay their respects to Mr. Herdina as he lay in state from noon until 5 o'clock in the afternoon on Friday at the funeral home. Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Phillip Allen Herdina was born on March 10, 1976, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lee, Minnesota. In 1980, his family relocated to Dalhart, Texas, where he graduated from Dalhart High School in 1994. Phillip married Erma Torres on October 3, 2012, in Odessa, Texas, and together they were blessed with two children, Allena and Christian.
Phillip had a strong passion for music and enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. He had a remarkable talent for injecting every conversation with his quick wit and clever comebacks. Phillip had a warm and inviting smile and made sure to greet everyone he met. A true sports fanatic, he was well-known for his support of the Texas Longhorns. Phillip had a zest for life and embraced every moment with great passion.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Erma Torres Herdina, his daughter, Allena, his son, Christian, his parents, Steve and Linda Herdina, his mother-in-law, Mary Torres, his sister, Dawn Herdina, his aunts and uncles, Larry and Mary Lahs, Bruce and Sheri Herdina, Romana Hobbiebrunken, Michael and Monica Hobbiebrunken, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Laurel Herdina, and Melvin and Arlene Hobbiebrunken.
Although Phillip may have lost his battle with cancer, today we gather not to mourn his loss but to celebrate the incredible person he was. Phillip possessed an unwavering positivity and fought boldly, especially during the last two years. We take relief in knowing that he has found eternal peace and comfort with Jesus. Whenever we see the Texas Longhorn mascot or feel the warmth of the sunshine, we will be reminded that Phillip is watching over us. May God bless him always, and may his memory live on in our hearts.
