Ronnie “Ron” Hester, went to play his banjo with the other angelic musicians on January 18, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Plainview, Texas, on January 31, 1945, to Ted and Ruby (Thomas) Hester, Ronnie was a man who lived his life with love, laughter, and a deep passion for music.
Ronnie’s love for music began at an early age and lasted throughout his life. Whether playing guitar, or his favorite the banjo, or mandolin, or harmonica, Ronnie found joy in creating and sharing music. His heart and soul were devoted to serving God through his music, and for over 15 years, he served as the Music Director at Lincoln Street Baptist Church and Central Methodist Church in Dalhart. His music not only lifted the spirits of those who heard it, but also brought him closer to God.
Beyond his musical contributions, Ronnie was an active member of his church and community. He found great joy in being part of the Stephen Ministry, attending the men’s Bible study group, and volunteering at the Brick Street Community Center, where he could often be found washing dishes with a smile. His generous spirit and kind heart touched many, and for over 42 years, he was a familiar and comforting presence in Dalhart.
Ronnie married his best friend and the love of his life, Christi Northcutt, on March 23, 1982, in Gould, Oklahoma. Together, they shared a beautiful life built on faith, love, and mutual respect.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ruby Hester, and his brother-in-law, Ralph Hill.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Christi of the home; three children, Keri Carter and husband Harlan, and Jeremy Hester all of Dalhart; and Jennifer Samuels and her husband Faron of Dumas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother Rick Hester and wife Bena of Quitaque, Texas, his sister Janice Hill of Silverton, Texas, and many close friends and his church family, who will miss him dearly.
